Two officials injured as ‘sand mafia’ attacks forest team in Bandipora | KNO

Bandipora, July 02 (KNO) : Two forest officials were injured after they were attacked by group of sand smugglers in Watapora village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday morning, leaving them seriously wounded before fleeing from the spot. The injured has been identified as Abdul Rashid Wani and Nazir Ahmad. The incident took place around 06:00 AM in the morning. Speaking to KNO, an official of the department Mohammad Hussain said when the team tried to stop the sand smugglers, they were attacked with sharp weapons and left the forest officials injured seriously. He said that both officials have sustained injuries on face and head and were rushed to Bandipora hospital for advanced treatment. He said that police has also taken cognizance of the case and registered an FIR against eleven accused persons under FIR number 71/2019 under section 307 RPC at Police Station Bandipora. Meanwhile, locals of Watapora and adjoining areas demanded strict action against the involved persons.(KNO)
